Cambridgeshire team on a mighty hike

Supporting a charity close to their hearts is taking some of the Association’s Cambridgeshire team on a mighty hike.

The Association’s former cadet executive officer for the county, Maj Geoff Hammond, had been battling cancer following his retirement. Some of those who worked with Geoff at Cambs Army Reserve Centre in Waterbeach, including his daughter Kirsty, planned to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support to thank it for supporting Geoff.

The 18-strong Cambridgeshire team wanted to tackle some of Macmillan’s “mighty hikes“, fundraising walks around the UK. Sadly, as we reported at the start of the year, Geoff passed away on 26 December 2024 before he could see the team undertake the walk.

But determined to complete their challenge in his memory, the team, who dubbed themselves the “Camo Chemo Warriors” recently finished their first hike (below), completing 14 and a half miles.

They’re already planning a longer 26-mile march along the Wye valley on the Welsh borders in September this year and are accepting sponsorship via their JustGiving link. Any support they receive will encourage the Cambridgeshire team on a mighty hike.
