Sad news from family of retired Cadet Executive Officer for Cambs

Major Geoff Hammond received a certificate of meritorious service from the Lord Lieutenant of Cambs following his retirement as the RFCA's Cadet Executive Officer for the county

We are very sorry to share the sad news that Geoff Hammond, former Cadet Executive Officer for Cambridgeshire’s Army Cadet Force, passed away on 26 December 2024 after a lengthy illness.

Geoff, pictured above receiving a Certificate of Meritorious Service from the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence OBE QPM, had a storied career with the British Army (RCT/RLC)  and later the Army Cadets. He received promotions through the ranks to Major. You can read more about his life in an article published on the Army Cadets website following his retirement.

Geoff wanted to be at home with his family in his final months. Support from his local hospice made it possible for his wife, Donna, and daughter Kirsty to provide the care he needed. In recognition, Geoff asked that any donations people might like make in his memory go to the Tapping House Hospice, Kings Lynn.

Geoff’s family have planned his funeral for the afternoon of Friday 17 January, and all who would like to pay their respects are welcome. To assist the Hammonds with catering arrangements, East Anglia RFCA is collating the number of people planning to attend after hearing of the funeral through us.

Please contact our Deputy Chief Executive, Lt Col Alison Falcon, on ea-cedep@rfca.mod.uk if you would like details of the funeral or for the address to write personally to Donna and Kirsty.
