East Anglian employees attend military leadership course

Over 40 employees from supportive organisations across the region attended a course designed and delivered by Reservists to test and develop their leadership skills, army-style!

The course, called ‘Exercise Future Leader’, took place on Wednesday 10th July at the Royal Norfolk Showground.  Our Employer Engagement team offered places on the course to employees of East Anglian organisations who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, as part of the MOD’s Employer Recognition Scheme.

Reservists from 3rd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, delivered the training to the 47 participants, which comprised command tasks, fitness challenges and communications skills.

Here’s what some of the employees told us about the day:

“I really enjoyed learning more about how the army operates; this was particularly interesting coming from regular and reserve soldiers in an outdoor environment.” Ffion Loring – MBDA

“A massive thank you to the 3 Royal Anglian Regiment for giving us such a great experience of the military world and a flavour of how leadership And teamwork are the bedrock for creating a powerful, formidable ethos.”  George Buckley – Norwich City Football.

“I thought all elements of the day were really interesting, especially the weapons and fitness tests but particularly the airsoft part! All instructors were very genuine, informative and helpful… In summary I got a lot of out of the experience and enjoyed seeing the military approach to leadership. I would recommend the day to anyone – it was unique, informative and above all else really fun!” Kathryn Levett – Red 7 Marine.

“If you want to learn what it takes to be your own version of a leader and not what the stereotypical version of one might be, this future leaders day is a must. The army believes in different types of leadership and encourages you to find your own niche.” Ashley Swash – HMP Whitemoor.

Huge thanks to 3 Royal Anglian Regiment and our Employer Engagement Team for putting on a great training event, and  to everyone who took part. To find out more about the Employer Recognition Scheme, please contact our Regional Employer Engagement Team.
