Three members of Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) have received Army Cadet Charitable Trust’s Praiseworthy Action Awards for using their ACF first aid training in real-life situations.
The awards were presented by our Chief Executive, Col Leona Barr-Jones VR DL, as part of Cambridgeshire ACF’s Showcase Day, which took place at their Waterbeach HQ on Sunday 14th July.
First aid training is a key part of the cadet force experience and all three ACF members were able to put these skills to the test in critical situations.
Cadet Lottie Carter:
Cadet Carter showed incredible composure when her friend tripped, hit her head, and later became seriously ill. Carter placed her friend in the recovery position, used her jumper to support her head, and called an ambulance, ensuring her friend’s safety.
LCpl Isla Martin:
LCpl Martin displayed exceptional care during her sister’s epileptic seizure at the theatre. She secured ice packs and water, and kept her sister awake and calm. Her actions were vital in ensuring her sister’s well-being until they were able to return home safely.
SSI Andrew Phipps:
Staff Sergeant Instructor (SSI) Phipps assisted a distressed woman contemplating suicide, staying with her until the police arrived. He also responded to another incident where a man was convulsing. SSI Phipps stayed with the man until the ambulance arrived, potentially saving a life again.
The ACCT’s praiseworthy action award scheme recognises cadets and adult volunteers who give help and assistance to the general community (including other cadets and adult volunteers) from minor incidents to life-saving situations and other real-life emergencies.
