Glyn and Gwyn Price, stalwarts of Beds & Herts Army Cadet Force (ACF), recently retired after giving 45 and 35 years of service to their county.

Familiar faces to cadets and cadet force adult volunteers alike, Glyn and Gwyn between them influenced and inspired several generations in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire to develop their skills and abilities.

Towards the end of April 2025, they were invited to a final parade in their honour at Ampthill ACF detachment in Bedfordshire. The county’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Susan Lousada, joined the Honorary Colonel of the ACF in Beds & Herts, Andrew Wallis MBE DL, as well as former Beds & Herts ACF Commandant, Col Andrew Every MRICS MCGI VR and current Commandant, Col Andre Clark for the event.

Col Clark gave a farewell speech to Gwyn and Glyn at the parade. The Prices then received the gift of a cannon statuette from the ACF, thanking them for their decades of service and wishing them well for the next chapter of their life.

Glyn wrote afterwards: “Gwyn and I would like to sincerely thank all of you who attended our retirement evening at Ampthill. It was great to see the Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, the Honorary Colonel, Commandant, former Commandants and our friends from the start of our ACF careers to our final years, taking time out to wish us well in our retirement from the ACF.

“It is [on] these occasions that you think of absent friends, those who have been friends and helped us in the past and who are no longer with us. Ampthill itself holds many fond memories for us both and it seemed fitting that our last parade should be there.

“Once again, we would like to thank everyone that attended and the staff that organised the event to make it so successful. We hope all of you that are still serving continue to achieve what you want and give the cadets the experience they deserve.”

All at East Anglia RFCA send our own thanks and good wishes to these two stalwarts of Beds & Herts Army Cadet Force.
