Each year the UK’s 12 Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations have a legal requirement to report on the state of our country’s Reserve Forces.

A group acting on behalf of all RFCAs called the External Scrutiny Team (EST) undertakes this work, examining in detail the capability and readiness of Royal Navy, Marine, British Army and RAF reserves.

As Crown servants employed by arm’s length organisations, RFCA staff can offer an independent assessment of military reserves. This offers HM Government a fresh perspective on one of the key resources available to support Ministry of Defence planning and our regular Armed Forces.

The RFCAs’ independent report for 2024 has just been published and you can find it on the Government’s main website. Previous years’ reports are also available from the site.
