Company Sergeant Major Florence Cordell from the New Cardington detachment of Beds and Herts ACF shook hands with HRH The Duke of Sussex on his arrival at Lealands High School in Luton.
Florence said: “The least I can say is that I was ecstatic and somewhat star struck!”
She added: “With my last appointment done as the Lord-Lieutenant’s cadet I’d love to say thank you to the Lord-Lieutenant and all of her team for an amazing year! Oh, and of course Staff Davies! I look forward to seeing her soon and the best of luck with her future cadets!”
The Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets are appointed every year from the many talented young people in the Cadet Forces within each county. Bedfordshire has just recently welcomed in their new team of Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets at a special ceremony held at the Flitwick and Ampthill Sea Cadets.
The role of Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets is to support the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out her duties. Selection and appointment to this role acknowledges a Cadet’s outstanding contribution to their Cadet service and to the community.
Florence and her fellow Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets this year have had many opportunities to attend very exclusive events. Cadet Warrant Officer Ella Legg from 10F Luton Airport Squadron of the Air Training Corps also supported the Lord Lieutenant for Bedfordshire Helen Nellis in greeting the Duke.
The Duke met students from Lealands High School, Challney Boys School, The Chiltern Academy and Lea Manor High School to promote the Rugby Football Union’s All Schools programme. The All Schools programme is an RFU initiative to get 750 state schools playing rugby.
