Suffolk Army Cadets were out in force at Wattisham Flying Station Day, supporting the Royal British Legion and getting a front-row seat to an impressive display of military aviation.
Community engagement is an important part of the Army Cadet syllabus, giving cadets valuable opportunities to develop their confidence, communication skills and teamwork while making a positive contribution to their local communities.
At Wattisham Flying Station Day cadets rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, helping to set up and man the Royal British Legion stand. Throughout the event, they chatted with members of the public, helped raise funds and promoted awareness of the charity.
Their smart turnout, enthusiasm and professionalism made a lasting impression on the organisers at the Royal British Legion:
“They were all very polite, sensible, engaged extremely well with both us and the public and are a great credit to their detachment and the Army Cadets as a whole. We look forward to working with the Cadets again next year, on behalf of Suffolk County Royal British Legion thank you.”
A second organiser added:
“The Cadets were a credit to the Detachment and were keen and willing, as well as being turned out smartly. All our volunteers were impressed with the calibre of the cadets supporting us”.
There was also plenty for the cadets to enjoy once their duties were complete. The event featured an exciting aerial display, including the Wildcat helicopter and US Air Force Osprey, giving cadets the chance to see some impressive military aircraft in action.
Supporting events like Wattisham Flying Station Day is just one of the ways Suffolk Army Cadets get involved in their communities. From village fetes to major events such as the Suffolk Show, cadets regularly step up, get involved and make a difference.
