Suffolk Army Cadet Centre in Ipswich recently hosted Suffolk’s Lord Lieutenant’s Awards, an annual celebration of the county’s reserve and cadet forces.
This year the HM Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, Mark Pendlington, presented nine adults with the Certificate of Meritorious Service. This prestigious honour is given to those who have given loyal and dedicated service to their respective reserve or cadet units.
This year’s recipients were:
- Major E Lee-Smith (677 Sqn Army Air Corps)
- Lt Commander G Waylett (Sea Cadets)
- Lieutenant V Cotterill (Sea Cadets)
- Lieutenant O Townsend (Sea Cadets)
- Sub Lieutenant M Brown (Sea Cadets)
- Warrant Officer L Cousins (Sea Cadets)
- Capt S Davison (Suffolk Army Cadet Force)
- Sqn Leader S Smith (Royal Air Force Air Cadets)
- Chaplain R Tuck (Royal Air Force Air Cadets)

Suffolk ACF’s Capt Davison (pictured above with the Lord Lieutenant) was proud to receive the award after some 35 years’ service to the Army Cadet Force, with his accolade reading as follows:
‘During his service, Capt Davison has shown outstanding commitment and fully understands that the Cadet Force is a child centred youth organisation. He truly believes in and delivers the whole cadet experience ensuring all cadets have the opportunity to develop with all areas of the ACF portfolio. It is impossible to put a number on how many cadets he has mentored, taught and helped over the years, in order for them to reach their true potential and make good citizens in line with the ACF Charter.’
The afternoon also celebrated the induction of four new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for Suffolk. These young people will support the Lord Lieutenant in some of his official duties around Suffolk on behalf of King Charles III.
The new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet’s recipients are:
- Cadet Sergeant J Woods-Andrews (Royal Marine Cadets)
- Cadet Warrant Officer T Barker – (Combined Cadet Force)
- Cadet Company Sergeant Major J Thurtle – (Suffolk Army Cadet Force)
- Cadet Warrant Officer W Aryaeenia (Royal Air Force Air Cadets)
East Anglia RFCA sends its congratulations to all of the Certificate of Meritorious Service recipients and new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for Suffolk.
