Suffolk Army Cadets (ACF) enjoyed a week of fun, friendship and adventure at their 2026 Annual Camp.
Cadets spent the week learning invaluable skills in a fun environment, taking part in army cadet syllabus activities such as fieldcraft, skill at arms and navigation. This year, cadets were also able to enjoy adventure training, which is always popular and rewarding. This was made possible by a grant from the East Anglia RFCA Financial Scrutiny Committee.
Camp kicked off with a range of army engagement and STEM challenges, including a fun reaction test from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. This proved to be a hit, along with the opportunity to get up close to army vehicles and equipment. And, of course, no camp would be complete without a treat, with Operation Ice Cream rolling in to keep cadets and adult volunteers cool and happy.
Throughout the week, the companies rotated through a varied programme of activities. Fieldcraft expeditions gave cadets the chance to put their skills to the test, working together to tackle challenges a fun but demanding environment. Navigation exercises saw cadets relying on their map-reading skills to find their way between checkpoints, with a few muddy patches adding to the challenge.

Adventure training proved a firm favourite, with cadets taking on the high ropes and climbing wall before testing their teamwork and STEM skills with bridge building. Cadets also had the chance to try something a little different, with axe throwing adding an extra thrill to the week.
Alongside the activities, there was time to celebrate too, with one cadet marking their birthday during the week. What better way to celebrate than with your friends and a whole lot of adventure?
During the week the camp was visited by Colonel Leona Barr-Jones, Chief Executive of East Anglia RFCA, and Colonel Anthony Fairbanks Weston, Honorary Colonel of Suffolk ACF. Their visits provided plenty of encouragement and inspiration for both cadets and adults.

The camp also provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of cadet force adult volunteers (CFAVs). RSM Coins were presented to one CFAV from each company who, over the past year, have gone above and beyond to support cadets and make a real difference.
