New Standard for Army Cadets Detachment in Haverhill

New Standard for Army Cadets as Haverhill Detachment show off the flag alongside generous donors

Celebrating a new standard for Army Cadets in a Suffolk town, cadet force adult volunteers, local partners and supporters joined the local detachment’s young people to mark the special presentation.

Before presentation of the new Standard, the Haverhill Detachment of Suffolk Army Cadet Force formally retired its previous Standard, which had represented the cadets at parades, services and community events for six decades. Its successor was funded with the generous support of local sports turf company Bernhard & Co, highlighting the links between the detachment and the community of which it is part.

Bernhard & Co’s managing director, Steven Nixon, accompanied by his colleague Angelique Crosnier, formally presented the new Standard to the detachment. Cdt Sgt Salter gratefully received the Standard on behalf of all his fellow Army Cadets.

Demonstrating why pride in their detachment is a key part of the cadet experience, the young members of the ACF displayed some of the skills they developed through their training for their guests.

Cadets confidently showcased their first aid capabilities and fieldcraft skills—despite rain falling throughout the evening event in Haverhill. This only underlined their commitment to and enthusiasm for their training.

Cadets also delivered a presentation with slides setting out the reasons they had chosen to join the ACF, the opportunities and benefits they gained through recent adventurous training in Wales, and how much they had already learned at Haverhill Detachment.

The evening event concluded with an extra presentation, with two cadets receiving their Basic Star Pass Certificates. Both young people said they were excited about progressing further and working towards their 1 Star Badge.

The event included a fond farewell to Cdt Sgt Salter, who will soon be aging out of the cadet programme. His contributions to the unit over the years were recognised by the detachment officer commanding. He will soon be starting an engineering apprenticeship and everyone at the RFCA wishes Cdt Sgt Salter our best for his next challenge.
