The Royal Anglian Regimental Day 2025 earlier this autumn saw serving soldiers, veterans, cadets and supporters of the Regiment come together in celebration. Among those attending the event, at Kendrew Barracks in Cottesmore, were young people and adult volunteers from Suffolk Army Cadet Force who represented their county with pride.
Formed in 1964, the Royal Anglian Regiment is the oldest of the current line regiments and can trace its heritage as far back as 1685. Today, it consists of three battalions: the 1st and 2nd, both regular units, and the 3rd Battalion, part of the Reserve Forces.
As close combat specialists, Royal Anglian soldiers are highly trained in operating a variety of weapons and equipment to meet the challenges of modern warfare. For the Suffolk cadets, one of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to engage with some of this equipment first-hand.
Serving soldiers gave the cadets guided access to Foxhound and Jackal armoured vehicles, as well as to a range of weaponry, including sniper rifles and multi-purpose machine guns. Cadets were encouraged to ask questions, try out the equipment, and gain a deeper understanding of the Regiment’s operational role.
The day also included a ceremonial parade led by veterans of the Regiment. Addressing those gathered, Major General Biddick MBE MC, the Colonel of the Regiment, welcomed attendees and provided an update on recent regimental activities.
In a particularly proud moment, several Suffolk cadets were presented with exemplary coins by Brig Richard Lyne, Deputy Colonel of the Regiment, in recognition of their outstanding conduct and commitment.
The event proved to be both educational and inspirational for the cadets. The cadets not only enjoyed the hands-on experiences but also witnessed the traditions and camaraderie that define the Royal Anglian Regiment.
The Suffolk ACF cadets won praise during the Royal Anglian Regimental Day 2025 as excellent ambassadors for their county. Their commandant passed her thanks to the cadet force adult volunteers who made that participation possible.
