There is real determination in Suffolk Army Cadet Force to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, the British Army’s national charity. Leading the charge is Major Gerrard, the county’s Cadet Executive Officer (CEO) and a member of the East Anglia RFCA team.
Maj Gerrard joined hundreds of other athletes to complete a half-marathon recently. Maj Gerrard, who was running in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), crossed the finish line in an impressive 2hrs 25min 34s, an improvement on his time the previous year. His efforts have already raised £454 for the ABF and more donations are still coming in.
Buoyed by his achievement, Maj Gerrard has already hinted that a full marathon could be next on his fundraising itinerary. And inspired by his dedication , volunteers and staff ran a charity curry lunch for the ABF back at Suffolk Army Cadet Force‘s base in Ipswich .

The event, organized by Lt Col (Retd) Robbie Silk who chairs of the ABF Suffolk branch, had an excellent turnout, with diners from across the local community. Guests at the charity lunch enjoyed a spicy meal, learned about the vital work the ABF does locally and nationally, and took part in a lively raffle. Early estimates suggest the event raised around £800, with the final total to be confirmed soon.
The ABF provides a lifetime of support for serving soldiers, veterans, and their families. Last year alone, the charity assisted about 80,000 people, across 52 countries, with education, housing, caring responsibilities, mental fitness and family welfare. You can find out more on the ABF website.
If you would like to donate to the ABF by sponsoring Maj Gerrard, you can do online so via his JustGiving page. The Suffolk CEO offers his thanks to everyone who chooses to back such a worthy cause in this way, and to all who supported these impressive events.
