East Anglia RFCA completed an upgrade of the Hutton Air Cadets’ hut for the Essex Wing of the Air Training Corps, creating a more welcoming space for the Air Cadets and adult volunteers who train there.
The East Anglia RFCA Estates team made improvements to the building, to make the space more functional, more practical and more welcoming.
The cadets now have a dedicated flight simulation room, which many other squadrons are sure to be envious of. And by moving the tea point, the Estates team made the drill hall larger, giving the cadets more room to train indoors without changing the footprint of the building.
As energy-saving measures, the team installed new uPVC windows, and LED lighting both inside and outside. The improved lighting outside makes it easier to train outside even during the darker winter months.
The building’s external timber cladding was repainted to keep the building looking sharp for years to come. Inside, all the doors and flooring were replaced and the building was re-wired.
The RFCA Estates team manage over 500 buildings across East Anglia and deliver a year-round programme of improvements that sits alongside capital projects and maintenance workstreams.
This is another great example of the work the RFCA team carries out throughout the year; adding energy-saving measures and adding in key features to make the buildings easy to run locally by squadron leaders.
