The 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team and Colchester Garrison Show will take over Abbey Field, Colchester on Saturday 25 June to mark Armed Forces Day 2022.
Everyone is encouraged to turn up to this free family event, to show their support for the local military community on this national celebration day.
The Parachute Regiment’s Red Devils freefall team will be swooping down from the skies during the event, British Army Band Colchester will fill the air with music, and there’s a dramatic combat demonstration planned for the big finale. The event involves the participation of veterans and cadets from across Essex. Organised by Colchester Garrison every other year, visitors can expect food and drink stalls, bouncy castles, and free parking (although visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible). And that’s not all, because there will be a RAF Puma helicopter, artillery, and a field hospital deployed by parachute.
An insight into the garrison’s history will be given by living historians showing the kit and weaponry of First and Second World War soldiers and Merville Barracks’ Dakota transport aircraft will be open for people to see and touch.
Lieutenant Colonel Ed Rankin, Commander of Colchester Garrison, said: “Armed Forces Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the link between the military and the civilian community in which they live and work. The residents of Essex are hugely supportive of soldiers and their families – which we in uniform are hugely appreciative of – and it is important that the Army gives something back in return. The Show promises to be an exciting, interesting, and entertaining day which I warmly invite everyone to attend.”
