We’ll be celebrating the many volunteers we count as colleagues and members at East Anglia RFCA for Volunteers’ Week.
We caught up with our new Administrative Officer (AO) Nathan Drummond at Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force, who shares the volunteering ethos prevalent throughout our association. As AO Cadets for Cambridgeshire ACF, Nathan is responsible for processing the information from the 820 Army Cadets in the county.
Nathan Drummond volunteers as a special constable, keeping people safe on their nights out at the weekend in Ely. What’s more, Nathan volunteers as a detachment commander for the Newmarket Army Cadets, giving young people in his community an opportunity to experience the fun, friendship and adventure that he enjoyed; Nathan joined the Cadet Forces at age 12. “My most memorable time as a cadet was being picked up from camp in a army transport aircraft and dropped off in the middle of nowhere for fieldcraft; it was surreal” recalled Nathan.
Through volunteering, we gain valuable new skills and experiences, we boost our confidence and feel good about helping others and making a positive contribution to our communities.
Our colleagues at Cambridgeshire ACF are organising a MacMillan Coffee Morning on 1st June from 10am to 1pm with a raffle, stalls games and a bake sale at the Waterbeach Cadet Training Centre. By volunteering to raise funds for this charity, they are showing their thanks and appreciation for the MacMillan teams.
We’ll be taking stock of how many of our staff members volunteer and sharing some of their stories over the course of Volunteers’ Week. Anyone inspired to volunteer can of course contact their local uniformed youth organisation, other volunteering opportunities are available throughout East Anglia.
