Air Cadets and Army Cadets are set to return to the newly refurbished Stevenage Cadet Centre after two years.
Two years ago, disaster struck when rodents caused major electrical faults at the Stevenage Cadet Centre. The site had to be shut down and alternatives were found for the Air Cadets squadron and the Army Cadets detachment.
After a full refurbishment of the building, completed by our Estates Team, the cadets can finally come home.
The works included a full re-wiring of the building, as well as plenty of other improvements that the cadets and their instructors are delighted about.
Outside, better lighting was installed so that the cadets can continue to make use of their outdoor space even in the dark winter evenings. New energy-efficient LED lighting and heaters, as well as new flooring and paint, have transformed the space into a functional, bright, fit-for-purpose place where young people can thrive.
Some of the changes the cadets might not notice as much, but were needed to prolong the life of the building, such as the new lightweight roof. The cadet centre is now a welcoming space for the cadets and adults in Stevenage, following the investment of £150k. This refurbishment was completed as part of a scheduled programme of works that our Estates team manage alongside reactive maintenance requests that could come from any of our 200 sites. The Stevenage Joint Cadet Centre is located at 50-58 Valley Way, Stevenage , Hertfordshire SG2 9AG and is the home to 955 (Stevenage) Squadron of the Air Training Corps and the Stevenage South detachment of the Beds & Herts Army Cadets.
