The 2024 General Election: Important information

On 22 May 2024, the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, announced the date of the next General Election. This will take place on 4 July 2024.

During the pre-election period, all government departments and public organisations, including arms’ length bodies like East Anglia Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, follow guidelines published by the Cabinet Office which dictate that only essential communication should take place across the pre-election period to avoid competition with the election campaign for the public’s attention.  The same general principles apply to offline and online media across all our audience & stakeholder groups. This will last until the general election concludes.

What does this mean for East Anglia Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association?

We will continue to conduct essential business, including the administration of the Army Cadet Force and maintaining the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Estate, however our engagement activity should be suspended during the pre-election period..

As a result, until after 4 July 2024, we will not be doing any of the following:

  • Publish content on our digital channels unless necessary for conducting essential business.
  • Publish new reports.
  • Publish our monthly newsletter.
  • Engage with any candidates seeking election.

We will continue to respond reactively to questions from stakeholders with purely factual information.
