Lord Tom is potential instructor material says Detachment Commander Paul during VIP visit

St Albans cadets received a VIP visit from Lord Tom McNally, chairman of the Youth Justice Board and former Government minister. Col Wilkinson from East Anglia RFCA and Lt Col Every were also in attendance that evening, with Lord McNally presenting promotions to three cadets and some unit awards to others.

This was Lord McNally’s first visit to any cadet forces unit. He inspected the cadets on parade, conducted a question & answer session with cadets and staff.

Lord McNally took part in skill at arms and first aid training, where he did so well that Lt Paul Mills the Detachment Commander commented that he was instructor potential!

Detachment Commander Paul Mills said ” Any VIP visit is important, but to receive such an influential person who chairs the Country’s Youth Justice Board is a privilege for any youth organisation, I am very pleased that our unit was chosen. I am extremely proud of the enthusiasm shown by my staff and cadets. We will always remember Lord McNally’s visit and are very grateful for his support.”
