On Thursday 22nd January, seventeen key businesses based in Essex were rewarded with a Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for demonstrating their support to Reservist employees.
The businesses who attended the special award ceremony and received Silver Awards were; Brentwood Borough Council, Castle Point Borough Council, Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, Essex Cares Ltd, Essex County Council, Essex Police, First Data International, Green Earth Management Company Ltd, Micrologic UK Ltd, Milbank Concrete Products Ltd, Montecare Solutions, Re-Cycle, SGFM & Global, Southend University Hospital NHS Trust, University of Essex, Raytheon and Selex ES.
The awards were presented by The Rt Hon The Lord Petre MA JP, Lord Lieutenant of Essex at Wivenhoe House Hotel, Colchester, Essex.
The seventeen companies from Essex who were awarded the ‘Silver Award’ all employ Reservists and have demonstrated their support to Defence from training courses to mobilisation.
The Rt Hon Hon The Lord Petre MA JP Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Colonel Gary Wilkinson Brigade Commander at Colchester Garrison and Iain Finch Essex Employer Engagement Group Chairman all gave speeches during the ceremony about the support local employers have shown to the Reserve Forces.
Kristina Carrington, Regional SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) Campaign Director for East Anglia said: “The presentation event was a great success with many of those in attendance having the opportunity to speak to other Essex employers about their experiences of employing reservists. The MOD received over 500 nominations for Silver Awards across the UK and 105 have been awarded to employers based in East Anglia.”
Barry Greenberry, Chief Operating Officer at Essex Cares Ltd said: “To be recognised for supporting those amongst our ranks such as Major Paul Billings who serves the country as a Reservist means something significant to us at Essex Cares Ltd.”

Melanie Harris, Head of Partnerships and Community Covenant Liaison at Castle Point Borough Council said: “Castle Point Borough Council is a signatory to the community covenant and will continue to provide strong support for the Armed Forces and value those employees who serve the country in the Reserve Forces.”
Reservists are men and women who give up their free time to train alongside our regular (full-time) military forces and may be called on to serve the country in times of need at home or abroad.
