Building Heroes is starting to run courses again from the Colchester Institute, in Property Maintenance and Engineering.
Building Heroes is a British military charity organisation which offers fully funded 5-week courses to support veterans, service leavers and their close family members to transition into the construction industry.
They have several courses running throughout 2020 and 2021 from the Colchester Institute for Property Maintenance and Engineering. Almost 1,000 veterans have now completed the charity’s training programme, and due to recent expansion, it aims to deliver 1,000 graduates every year from 2021.
The charity currently has 12 centres across the UK in Wiltshire, Cheshire, North Yorkshire, West Sussex, Devon, Somerset, London, Hampshire the East Midlands and Essex.
Ross Ardley completed a course and he said: “I have learnt a lot since going into my new career as a sole trader and establishing my own business. Building Heroes gave me a big step up, and now with all the skills I learnt on the course being put into practice in people’s homes, I’ve had some very happy customers!”
Marc Hughes, another person to complete a Building Heroes course said: “I’d advise anyone who has been in the military and is interested in construction to do this course. Put as much effort into it as you can and ask multiple questions, but most of all enjoy it as the instructors are full of knowledge and are always there to help.”
Ellis Jewell said: “Building Heroes really sent me in the right direction to my perfect career. My eyes were opened to a whole new career path and without the course I would not be in the position I am today. It is a great course with great instructors who have an abundance of knowledge.”
Dean Horton recounts: “Since the course, I applied for a job as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager with Barratt Developments and I was successful. Since starting my new role, I have utilised so many skills from the course. The Building Heroes course has, without doubt, contributed to me being successfully employed in the construction industry and in a job that has excellent prospects. I am truly thankful to the Charity.”
