Local employers enjoy Queen’s Birthday Parade with East Anglia RFCA
Saturday 17th June was a day to feel very patriotic and proud of our Armed Forces. As guests of East Anglia RFCA, East Anglian Defence friendly employers had the opportunity to watch the celebrations on Horse Guards Parade and join one another over lunch at the East India Club.
Representatives from CS Hodges, Port of Felixstowe, Ipswich Council, Anglian Water, Focus 7 International Ltd, Dolphin Appliance Care Ltd, Collmart Growers Ltd, Drayton & St Faiths Surgery and Stoke By Nayland Golf and Leisure all shared their experiences of being involved with the Armed Forces and the benefits associated with employing reservists, service leavers and veterans.
The Employer Recognition Scheme was launched in 2014 by the Prime Minister to recognise employer support for the wider principles of the Armed Forces Covenant. The scheme encompasses Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces Community.
East Anglia RFCA were privileged to invite a mixture of employers, from those going for Gold to those who currently have reservist employees mobilised in Cyprus and Afghanistan on peace keeping duties.
As part of a post lunch speech, Stan Hodges, MD of CS Hodges; a current Bronze holder nominated for Silver, commented, “When the opportunity came along to get involved in the Armed Forces Covenant I grabbed it with both hands. What the Armed Forces Covenant can do for you is incredible. I only wish I had known about the Covenant before. They can actually help find you first class, enthusiastic staff that react well to instruction and once the job’s done ask you what you want them to do next. What price could you put on that? You get top quality, conscientious staff found for you free of charge! Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, sign up – you won’t look back. I wished I had sooner.
Since putting the Armed Forces Covenant logo on our vans and stationary it has caused clients and suppliers to ask questions about the armed forces, hopefully encouraging others to become involved too.”
Vida Barr-Jones, MD of Focus 7 International Ltd added, “I have felt privileged and honoured to be past of such an amazing celebration of the Queen’s Birthday. As a Silver ERS Award winner we are delighted to support in any way we can.”
